This is our first cruise on Splendor. It is a 27 night cruise from Barcelona to New York but spends time sailing up the St Lawrence to visit Quebec City and Montreal plus other Canadian cities. Should see some fall foliage on this cruise.

DAY 5---SAILING IN ATLANTIC OCEAN

IF YOU MISS A DAY OR MORE, THERE IS A "BLOG ARCHIVE" ON THE RIGHT SIDE BELOW THE PHOTO OF US.  JUST CLICK ON THE DATE YOU MISSED.

LAST EVENING

We had some pig-in-a-blanket with our drinks in Meridian Lounge before dinner.
Damar is the maitre d in Compass Rose.  We asked to be served by his best waiter/waitress.
So he took us to one of Meldin's tables.  Meldin certainly was good.
                                                           I started with some escargot.
                                                          Rebecca had a shimp cocktail.
                                                                 Me enjoying escargot.
Next I had the creamy corn soup & pablano chili soup.  Yummy!
I chose this chicken kiev for my entree but did not care for it.  No butter inside and over cooked so sent it back.
Rebecca had ordered this Szechuan stir-fry with a oyster sauce with side of rice.  She said it was very good so I also ordered it for my entree.
This is the malva pudding with ice cream on top.
When we walked by the Splendor Lounge we heard the Rhyme & Rhythm Duo performing.  Sounded very good but we were on the way to the theater.
We say on the second row left side for this show.  Same name as shows we had seen before but this had different songs and choreography.  I did not like the show's song selections as well as the others.  The cast was great however.
Dru, Cruise Director, introducing the show.

Some lady sitting next to Rebecca was telling her that I could not take photos of the show.  I told her I could take still photos.  You just can't take video/audio recordings.  Anyway, she did not believe me.
We got back to the suite and hit the hay at 10:30.

TODAY

The ship was doing a little rocking and rolling last night and today.  Not too bad but our closet door kept sliding open last night.  There are lights in it that cannot be turned off so I had to get up and cram some paper in it.  See below photo.

I reported to closet door problem to Saga and later this morning Orlando came and fixed it.
This is our position at noon today.  The Captain always makes a noon PA when at sea.  He reports we have sailed 280 nm since leaving Cadiz and have another 296 nm until reaching Funchal tomorrow morning at 8am.  It is 73 degrees outside today which is the same temperature as the ocean.  We have a 20 knot wind out of the north with wave height of 13 feet.  The ship is still rocking some due to this and some swells.  The depth of the ocean here is 13,500 feet.  Sunset is at 9:30 pm and sunrise tomorrow will be at 7:40.
Our clocks will move back an hour tonight so we will get an extra hour of sleep.
I did not walk much this morning but did some of my back therapy exercises.  No help.  Rebecca managed to do her treadmill time despite the ship's movements.  After we got cleaned up we went down to check out the boutiques.  There was nothing we wanted.  Not sure how we are going to spend the remaining $1100 ship board credits.
Every lunch in La Veranda they have something different at the carving station.  Today it was this porchetta pork roast with a stuffing.  Looked good but I passed.
I opted for a hamburger from the pool grill.  I asked for it to be medium cooked but was overcooked so not as good as usual.
This is tonight's Compass Rose menu.  Nothing grabbed us on it so at lunch in La Veranda I asked if we could speak with Luigi, the Restaurant Manager (he's over all the dining venues).  We wanted to see if he could get us into Pacific Rim, the Asian specialty restaurant.  Reservations are required and we had none.  He was able to make one for 7pm this evening.  I figured since we are Diamond members, he would get it done.  We rarely hear the word "no".
I like to take photos of the ship when in ports as not many passengers getting in them.  I actually took these yesterday in Cadiz.  They are of the fitness center.  This is on Deck 6 very back of ship.  This is entry.  Note the glass in the floor.
This is the glass in floor looking down at a small pool at back of the Spa down on Deck 5.

This is the equipment on one side.

This is equipment on other side plus there is a room for stretch & yoga classes.  The fitness center is larger than some of Regent's ships.  The equipment seems to be very new.
Stairway from the fitness center down to the Spa.
                                                         Same stairway from Spa up
Some of the Spa people.  They are not Regent crew as the Spa is contracted out to a European company.

Ok, that's about it for today.  This afternoon I watched a replay on tv of our guest speaker, Michael Scott, who spoke about the island of Madeira where we shall be visiting tomorrow.  It was a very informative talk.  I shall be going on a 5 hour tour at 10am tomorrow.  Rebecca is not going.
So this evening we will be enjoying cocktail hour as usual in the Meridian Lounge before heading to Pacific Rim for dinner.  There is a show at 9:30 which we plan on attending.
