Last night we sailed out the St Lawrence River and early this morning hung a left to sail up the Saguenay River. Today we are anchored as a Princess ship has the dock space. The ship's tenders (lifeboats) will be used to take guests to town for tours. Population here is nearly 150,000.
LAST EVENING
This is my last Makers Mark Manhattan. The two bottles of MM are empty so now I will have Woodford Reserve bourbon for my Manhattans.
This evening we enjoyed dinner in Pacific Rim, Asian specialty restaurant, with Cathi and John Begg. We are celebrating John's birthday today. We have cruised with them several times previously, and in fact, we have the same Pavlus Travel agent. I had ordered this Rombauer chardonnay for the occasion and Kadek, head sommelier, is about to open it. Rebecca and I started with some tempura soft shell crabs. Love them!We had also ordered some tempura shrimp for the table. Rebecca and I had this miso black cod. Delicious!
John had the gigantic pink tiger prawns pictured here. Cathi had Korean style barbeque lamb chops. I had this fried rice.
Stir fry Asian greens. Not so good.
The wait staff sang happy birthday to John. It was a very fun evening. We had front row center seats for Kenny's show.
Dru is introducing Kenny.
What an amazing singer and showman!!! Full of energy with singing and dancing. We have seen his shows on previous cruises and he's one of our favorite performers.
TODAY
I canceled my tour here. It was to be a 3 1/2 hour tour, "Saguenay Highlights and Winery Domaine Cageot". This morning we watched a special report recalling the events of 9/11 on Fox News. We are also watching news updates on yesterday's tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk.
This is a tender about to head to shore. The Majestic Princess ship is also here today with us. It was launched in 2017 and carries 3500 passengers. She was also with us yesterday in Quebec City. She gets to dock but are at anchor. At noon we headed up to Prime 7 for lunch. Here is the menu. Tojo, maitre d, gave us a nice window table.
I actually started with the soup of the day, potato & carrot soup. Forgot the photo of it. This is the chicken quesadilla I had next.
I had the seafood platter with just fried shrimp and fries.
Another ship arrived, the Norwegian Gem. Launched in 2007 it holds 2400 passengers.I had the seafood platter with just fried shrimp and fries.
It is 1pm and we are sailing now for our next port at Sydney, Nova Scotia. Tomorrow will be a sea day as it is 484 nautical miles away.
At 4pm Dru hosted a veterans and first responders (since today is 9/11) get together in the Splendor Lounge. There were probably 25 in attendance. We each told of our military and 9/11 experiences. I met another retired American Airlines female Captain there. I did not know her.
There is another ship wide "block party" this evening at 6pm. We had one the first segment. As a reminder a bell is rang over the PA from the bridge to invite everyone to come out in the hallways to meet their neighbors. Wine and canapes are served by the suite stewards. We do not plan to attend this one as Rebecca has a cough. We will head out of the suite a little early and go to the Meridian Lounge for our cocktail hour.
This is tonight's Compass Rose menu and we plan to dine there. There is no show in the theater tonight. Instead it is another "QUABBA" dance party in the atrium just like like segment. The cast singers will be singing Queen and ABBA songs while other dance. Nope, not going again!!
