This is our position at noon today. Shown by circle around triangle above. Good news is we had pretty smooth sailing last night and today. Wind is just 10 kts out of the north with a 8 foot swell. The Captain said the swell should lessen tonight. It 73 degrees outside today. Ocean depth is over 16,000 feet. We are about halfway to our next stop tomorrow, Ponta Delgado in the Azores.
LAST EVENING
We both ordered Ceasar salads with dressing on the side so we could add some tabasco to the dressing. I had Rebecca's anchovies too. Rebecca had this lemon-thyme tiger shrimp over rice. She loved it. She added some sriracha sauce to spice it up. I ordered spaghetti with seafood in a tomato sauce. Told Meldin I was entree size and spaghetti cooked well. Not al dente as they usually prepare it. Well, I was a small portion and the pasta was not cooked enough so I sent it back.
NOW, I got an entree portion with lots of shrimp, fish, squid, and clams in it. AND it was cooked the way I like it. Very yummy! Can't recall the name of this dessert but one of my favorites.
TODAY
I did a fast walk (as fast as I can walk) doing 10 laps around our deck hallway. It took 40 minutes. Then I did some of my physical therapy exercises in the suite. Rebecca hit the treadmill for 40 minutes as usual.
There is a very small self service laundrette aft on our deck. There is one on decks 6, 7, 8, and two on deck 9. Just one washer and dryer which are free to use. On some other of Regent's ships the laundrette is much larger. Yes, everyone get free laundry service but Rebecca likes to do her own. I send mine out.
At 11:00 this morning there was the "Country Fair" (another Regent tradition) up on the pool deck. All the different departments set up games for us to play. You get a ticket for each game you play that is put in for a drawing for prizes at the end of it. It lasts for just 30 minutes. I know it is more fun for the crewmembers than probably us passengers. Below are some photos I took. As I told Luca, the GM, I just take photos and not play.
Cold beer anyone?? At 12:30 I went down to Compass Rose for a special wine luncheon. Above is the menu with different wines for each course. Kadek, head sommelier, will be explaining each wine and the chef will talk about the food courses. Cost is $169. Rebecca having her Atkins bar in the suite as always.
Chef John was going over the menu courses we would be enjoying. First course was this phyllo-wrapped Brie with a berry compote. Delicious!
Paired with it was this Ruinart Rose Brut Champagne from Reims, France. Cost to buy a bottle-$135. I'm not a champagne fan so just had a taste. Second course was this pan-seared scallop with sweet pea risotto. Also very good.
It was paired with this 2021 Louis Jadot Grand Cru Chardonnay from Cote de Beaune, France. It was paired with this 2021 Louis Jadot Grand Cru Chardonnay from Cote de Beaune, France. Not a big fan of French wines. This chardonnay was not bad after it warmed up so you could taste it. Cost for a
bottle is $450.
Third course was Salmon Duet--a maple glazed salmon and salmon mousse with a champagne hollandaise sauce. DecantedThe salmon was uncharacteristically served with a red wine. This is a 2021 La Chapelle de Mission red blend wine from Pessac-Leognan, France. Cost for a bottle--$140. I really do not care for French wines. This one too tannic for me. Just tasted it. Forth course was a herb crusted veal tenderloin with a carrot and potatoes.
Decanted
I did not get a photo of this wine in the glass but it was this 2017 Far Niete "Dolce" from Napa, California. Cost on ship is $130 for a bottle. I just tasted this one too.
By this time it was 2:30pm and I had to hurry and get hungry for dinner. The course servings at the wine lunch were small and I did not drink much of the wines. Mainly just tasted them. It was a very nice luncheon which I really enjoyed. Kadek did a marvelous job presenting and describing the wines and what region they came from. He is very knowledgeable on wines.
This evening's plan is same as always. But back to my Manhattans this evening.
This is tonight's Compass Rose menu. Only thing that looks good to me is the chicken parmesan. But I'm not sure the CR kitchen can prepare it like up in Sette Mari. We will be going to the production cast show, "Crossroads" tonight in the theater. I have a tour scheduled at 8:45 tomorrow in Ponta Delgado. Our clocks will move back another hour tonight.
