Our position today. We were already docked in Corner Brook when we opened our curtains at 7:15.
This shows how we sailed from the Gulf of St Lawrence through the Bay of Islands then up the Huber Arm to arrive at Corner Brook. We did this in the dark this morning but will be able to see this afternoon when we sail again at 2pm
.
They are cleaning windows, pool deck, and sports deck this morning. Took these 3 photos from the ship. This is the pulp and paper mill.
Little shops on the dock.
Looking back at Huber Arm which is how we go here.
I departed the ship to catch the shuttle to downtown at 8am.
There were two ladies handing out maps of the city.
Small shops on the pier This was the very nice shuttle bus. I was only one on it and sat for 15 minutes before the driver decided no one else was coming. So off we went with just me. Right where he dropped me was a Masonic Hall. I am a Mason.
This is City Hall
War memorial
A museum
Vietnamese restaurant. The crew would love this place as they love Asian food..
Interesting name to this cafe/restaurant--Crown & Moose. A pharmacy right across the street from shuttle drop off. It was still closed.
They were setting up arts and crafts shops.
This little train does a 12 minute little tour of town. Cost is $2 but I had $5's and they did not make change. This is the bench at the shuttle stop. I wanted to take it back to the ship but it was all chained up! The pharmacy was open this time and a very nice lady help me find this pain reliever and muscle relaxant. Marcia had sent me some from Vancouver. This is different brand but same med. Helps by back if I take in mornings. Can't get it in the USA.
Garlic mashed potatoes were also VERY good. I ordered this hot dog from the pool grill. It was different from our US hot dogs. I ate it but won't order another one. I'll be burping it all afternoon. Desserts at buffet. I did not eat any. Just took this photo for Jeff, our son. They have two jigsaw puzzle tables and there's usually some folks working on them.
CORNER BROOK, NEWFOUNDLAND
Corner
Brook is located on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland on the Bay of
Islands inlet off the Gulf St Lawrence. It
is the 5th largest settlement in Newfoundland with a metro
population of 30,000.
The major
employer is the Corner Brook Pulp & Paper Mill. The city also has the largest regional
hospital in western Newfoundland. There
is a wide array of shopping and retail businesses, in addition to federal and
provincial government offices.
Corner
Brook lies in an especially heavy snow belt because of the cold Arctic air
masses from mainland Canada. They pick
up moisture when crossing the Gulf St Lawrence.
This will be our first visit here. Normally we would need coats when visiting in September as mean temperature will
probably be in mid to low 50’s. However, tomorrow's temperature is to be mid 70's.
LAST EVENING
Rebecca had the black pepper beef stir fry. It was not hot so sent it back for another. It was not hot either. It had this entree size farfalle pasta with shrimp, scallops, tomatoes. It as hot and excellent. Just way too much food. Next time I will get the appetizer size.
This is peanut butter crunch bars. I just had a couple bites. After dinner we headed back to the suite to watch the Cowboys/Eagles football game on tv. I fell asleep and Rebecca missed part of the game as she fell asleep on the sofa. Of course the Cowboys lost!

Nothing open and not much to photograph so I caught the shuttle back to the ship. Again I was the only one on it. Back on board by just after 9am.
Well, at 10:00 I had already put the above on today's post and nothing to do so went back to catch the shuttle again.
I tried to take this photo of the Canadian flag but the wind did not cooperate. Sorry Marcia! Here is a flower photo for my friend Jim Stoddard who is now on the Mariner. Good ole KFC. Seems to be the national fast food restaurant of Canada. Now this IS the national restaurant of Canada. Apparently the "Double Double" is the favorite coffee of Canadians. What do you think Marcia Rector? Little park
Lots of stores on this block. I did go in the Dollar Store just to check it out. This little train does a 12 minute little tour of town. We sailed again at 2pm. Back out Huber Arm and passing Bay of Islands. At 3:45 we were back in Gulf of St Lawrence. We will be spending tomorrow transiting the Bay and entering the St Lawrence
River. It is 611nm/703sm to our next port, Quebec City.
Tonight's Compass Rose menu. We did not care for any of the entrees so made a special order for panko coated fried tiger prawns.
The show is a production cast show, "Broadway in Concert". We have seen this show but they may have changed it some. We plan to attend it. They will be showing football again tonight at 9:30 on tv. One game is NFL, KC Chief vs Los Angeles Chargers. The other game is college, East Washington vs Boise St. After the show we will watch the NFL game. So glad Regent is now showing these games on tv.
Tonight our clocks will be turned back 1 1/2 hours. So then we will be on Eastern time. No more time changes on this cruise.
